So how did this thing come about?
FaceStat started as an experiment in crowdsourcing. We wondered what people on Amazon's Mechanical Turk would think about random faces pulled from the internet. Would people be able to guess the right age? What kinds of people would be thought of as trustworthy. You can find the original experiment in a blog post on the Dolores Labs blog.
So many of our friends wanted to be included in the experiment that we set up a site where they could upload their photos. After a while we added a feature where users could judge each other and it's become so popular that we no longer rely on Amazon Mechanical Turk to do the judging.
You can read some interesting analysis we've done with the data here and here.
